Winter holidays in New Zealand

Ever thought about a winter holiday in New Zealand?

If you thought New Zealand was just a summer holiday destination then think again! New Zealand is a year-round destination but a winter holiday offers breath taking scenery and the longest winter season in Australasia. The winter months are cooler and bring rain and snow to parts of the country but other areas further north experience milder temperatures anywhere from 10-16 degrees Celsius. Most of the attractions and activities are open all year round although some of the water sports typically close.

The New Zealand ski season generally runs from June through to late October. There are no less than 25 ski and snowboard areas and 18 of these are commercially operated ski fields. Unlike many other parts of the world, on-mountain accommodation at the New Zealand ski resorts is not very common, and true New Zealand ski-in ski-out accommodation is very rare Most accommodation is off mountain in towns such as Queenstown, Wanaka, Methven, Ohakune and Lake Tekapo. These NZ ski towns offer plenty of après activities and you’ll definitely experience the genuine kiwi culture. When you’ve had enough of mountain activities then the winter crisp days are perfect for walking, cycling or enjoying a soak in the numerous hot pools around the country.
