Yorkshire Dales Day Trip

A drive out and about in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales today was a welcome trip after being in lockdown for so long. We’ve not been far from home at all for quite a while so this was definitely a lovely treat for us. 😃

Grassington - Yorkshire Dales

Firstly we went into Grassington, a very popular little place not far from Skipton. We took a nice, slow, carefree walk around the village, checking out all the quaint little cottages with their very pretty and colourful flowers in their gardens. We even did a little shopping whilst we were there. 🛍 I bought a coffee mug - no surprise there for those that know me. ☕️😜 Hubby bought this little wooden tray that had writing engraved into it that said ”Grumpy old man’s bits n bobs” - perfect for him. 😆

Somewhere near Hubberholme

Driving further into the Dales we headed off down a very narrow road towards Hubberholme, somewhere we’d never been before. We parked up for a little while next to this beautiful river. A few other groups of people were also there, social distancing, having picnics whilst their children were running about in the fields enjoying the sunny weather.

It was so peaceful walking along next to the meandering river with its gentle sound of trickling water and mini waterfalls cascading over the rocks. It was a very warm day and so quiet and calm - much needed after the worlds recent chaos with this Coronavirus.

Hawes - Yorkshire Dales

Next stop was the Wensleydale Creamery at Hawes. It had only opened up again the day before so we were lucky enough to be able to visit. The cheese factory itself wasn’t open but the shop was and so we simply had to purchase some amazing cheeses. Well, you can’t visit and not buy some, now can you? I chose a lovely buttery cheese whilst hubby bought a champagne and orange - it had rather a zingy taste to it I can tell you! 😋

It was my very first time ever here but one day I’d like to go back and see just how the cheese is made in the factory - I’m sure it will be very interesting. 🧀

Ingleborough- Yorkshire Dales

We continued on towards Ingleton and I took a very quick pic of Ingleborough on the way past. It wasn’t the exact shot I was looking for - too many cars were parked up and we simply couldn’t find the right spot. However, it’s still a nice shot I think - I do rather like the colours in it. Ingleborough itself is rather famous for being one of the hills in the The Three Peaks challenge.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, usually in this order, and the idea is to complete the challenge by climbing all three peaks in less than 12 hours. The route is 24 miles (38.6km), and includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent.

Ingleborough is instantly recognisable from its shape and very steep incline on one side. It’s rather impressive, even from a distance - makes you realise just how small we really are!

Back home to Skipton

Finally heading home towards the late afternoon we drove on past Settle and back into Skipton. The sun had gone behind the clouds by this time and it looked as tho it might even rain but that didn’t dampen our spirits. We had a wonderful day out and about in the Yorkshire Dales and can’t wait to do it again soon! 🚗 😍

Have you been out since lockdown was lifted and if so, where have you been? If not, do you plan on going somewhere soon? Or perhaps you’re not quite ready to take that step just yet? Let me know in the comments below 👇 I’d love to hear from you!

Hi, I’m Christine and I love to share my own personal travels and adventures with others about places to go and things to do and see once you get there, particularly in my local area. I also love to support local small businesses that I think people might find interesting too. For example, places to stay, to go for a bite to eat or simply for a cup of tea or coffee and about interesting places to shop too. My hope is that you will find this information useful and interesting , especially if you plan on visiting the same places. At the very least you might like to start to make a list of places you’d like to visit from the informat... Read more
