Day 1: Dar Es Salaam to Selous Game Reserve
Pick up from Dar es Salaam and arrive for lunch, or if arriving late then just light refreshments. Nestled within woodland along the banks of the great Rufiji River lies Selous hippo Camp, an enchanting safari camp tucked into the untamed African bush adjacent to the vast, unfenced Selous Game Reserve.

Day 2: Full day game drive
After breakfast full day game drive in a specially modified safari vehicle with a professional guide, in which you should see and learn much about a large number of animals, including all the great favorites – lion, elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra – and all the other major species including the now rare African hunting dog. Great variety of bird species. Wonderful scenery, with varied topography: wetlands, dry grassland, light acacia forest and higher ground with long views to far-off mountains.

Packed lunch and time to rest. Your guide will select a location with shade and water nearby to watch animals coming to drink – a place with a clear view all round so that no predator can creep up unseen! Back to the lodge by 6.30 for sunset and dinner when you’re ready o/n Selous Hippo Camp (B, L, D)

Day 3: Selous to Dar Es Salaam
Up early for a walk through the bush and along the riverbank to learn about the local environment. Back after the walk for breakfast, and then departure for Dar Es Salaam (B)

Things to consider

Vaccination against cholera and malaria is recommended. Yellow fever vaccination is required for ALL persons from yellow fever endemic countries/regions. Please bring proof of your vaccination in the form of a stamped health card/certificate from your health center in your country of origin. It is advisable to bring anti-malaria pills, better still, to start taking the pills two weeks before arrival, during your stay, and after departure.

The recommended camera for a safari is a 35mm camera with automatic exposure and interchangeable Lenses. For the best results in photographing wildlife and birds, you should have a zoom lens. Remember to bring extra batteries for every camera and flash unit.
