Travel Tips: Amsterdam

Europe > Netherlands > Amsterdam

Although flights from UK airports to Amsterdam can be fairly cheap, accommodation is tyically expensive. Even Air BNB's in central locations can start from £80 per night. For good deals on accommodation, try to book during January sales (also Black friday) in low season. Good hotel deals can be found on Booking, Agoda and BA city break sale (flights and accommodation, 2 nights from £99).

If you miss the sale season then consider booking a hostel by the city centre (Amsterdam Centraal, Waterlooplein and Nieumarkt). Key attractions, bars, clubs and restaurants are just walking distance from these areas which will save you from the high cost of transportation (daily travel passes to use buses, trams, metro and ferries start from €15).

Free walking tours held throughout the week only require a complimentary tip at the end of the tour. They offer an affordable way to explore the city without forking out the cost of entrance fees for visiting key attractions.

There are a range of food markets by Nieumarkt where you can affordably sample the gorgeous cuisines that the city has to offer.

If you like to go clubbing, La Favela night club opened early this year, attracts both locals and tourists. Both nights we visited (Friday and Saturday) the club was packed! And everyone was on the dance floor right up until closing. Live DJ played a good variety of music including, RnB, House, Reggaeton, Dutch music, Afrobeats and whatever else I couldn't remember because we were far too busy on the dance floor. We're actually planning to return this August just to check out this club again!
