Jaisalmer Sunset safari

The sunset safari was one of many things we did during our stay in Jaisalmer. We booked it through the hotel we was staying at because they provided us with a reasonable price rather than the high prices that the tour agents were giving us.

The night consisted of a camel ride, watching the sunset over the sand dunes and a traditional dance performance with complementary snacks and food.

It was a very enjoyable night! The camels are in good condition, there are no chains or forcing the camels to move, they happily walk at their own speed, I have been on camel safaris before where it was the complete opposite, the camels were chained up and whipped to speed up and was just in a general poor condition. So, naturally I was a little sceptical to going on a camel safari again after my previous experience, but I went ahead with it simply just to check out the condition of the camels, and as soon as I saw them I knew straight away there was no abuse there. The owners know and love their camels on a personal level, it was obvious by the way they spoke and walked with the camel.

After a walk around the sand dunes we came to rest to watch the sun set, it was a lovely relaxing experience. The beauty of the landscape and the relaxed atmosphere from the camels and their owners just made for a perfect sunset. Unfortunately for us it wasn't a very clear night so there was a few clouds, but we didn't let that stop us from enjoying the sunset.

Once the sun had set we was then taken to a camp where we was led to a sitting area, we waited for around half an hour and the place had soon filled up.

We had complementary snacks and chai brought to our seats, and I honestly didn't think it could get any better! But then the entertainment began, and it was amazing! We got to watch traditional dances, tricks and fire-breathing! The atmosphere was electric, everybody was getting involved with the dancing, it was just a night of pure joy and laughter every single person had a smile on their face.

For all of these activities and a taxi ride 40 minutes each way from our hotel we paid just 750 rupees each! I have never received so much for so little, we didn't have very high expectations of the night because of the price we paid being less than half of any other price we had been given, but we got a lot more than we ever thought, it was a truly brilliant night!

If you want to experience the same night we had, bare in mind that you won't be able to purchase this safari night for this price unless you are staying in the hotel that I was.
