How To Save For A Trip

By KiwiTalksTravel | Feb 8, 2020

I’ve been on many trips in my life, and the one thing I’ve learnt is that if you run out of money, you’re screwed.

I’m not saying money is everything, but it is when you’re on holiday and want to make the most out of it.

Having something to look forward to is so exciting, and the more you save, the more you can do!

Many people find it hard saving for a trip, so I’m here to tell you some of the tips I use and other suggestions you may find helpful to use when saving and budgeting for a trip.

First things first, you have to know exactly how long you’re going for and calculate how much your flights will cost.

Next thing, you have to figure out how much your accommodation will be.

Calculate how much you’ll have to pay while you’re away for rent, bills etc.

If you’re getting annual leave while you’re away - add that to your total.

And lastly, think of how much you’ll want to have as spending money.

Once you’ve got all of those numbers written down (flights, accommodation & bills), add them, that’s what you’ll need to subtract from your overall total.

Here’s what you can save as much as you can for your trip.

Work out how long it is until your trip, and try to save at least half of your paycheck every week

Make a holiday bank account - once you see the money start to increase, it’ll motivate you even more to save

Skip that morning coffee

If you’re a big fan of buying lunches, stop - you’ll save so much

Don’t go out for dinner every weekend - make it a special occasion

I’m not saying you shouldn’t spend any money at all while you’re saving - be careful about your spending and think to yourself “do I really need to spend money on this?”

I hope this helps!

Happy saving!
