Visiting San Angelo, Texas

This city is located on the Concho River . It's known for its 1860s U.S. army post, the Fort Concho National Historic Landmark. Its restored buildings display original artifacts and weapons. So, one day Mark and I decided to make a trip to find this icon and spend an afternoon touring. Fort Concho served as regimental headquarters for some of the most famous frontier units like the 4th and 10th Cavalry. Notable military commanders such as Ranald Mackenzie, Benjamin Grierson, and William ‘Pecos Bill' Shafter commanded here.

We also honed out some eclectic hippie venues and found one called “Chicken Farm Art Center.” Adorable little place that catered to local artists and their work. We roamed around and looked at the different vendors and their items and then made our way onto the San Angelo Railroad Museum.

The Railroad Museum was pretty cool and showed a lot of history as you maneuver your way through the 2-story building that was the Depot for San Angelo. There were also scale model trains and memorabilia to purchase if you so desired.

Last but not least, we made our way to the famous Eggemeyer's General Store. Eggemeyer's offers an authentic “general store” experience. They have everything from homemade fudge to retro brand candies to souvenirs to gourmet cooking items. It's definitely a must-see in San Angelo.
