Many times when we are planning a vacation, whether it's at home or at the destination, we plan around what WE like, what WE want to do, where WE want to eat. However, if you're traveling with your family or with another person, plan, but have an open mind. Keep their interests in mind. Have your children help in the planning process, for instance. I would say that if they are younger than 13 give them choices. If you're going on a cruise, give them two excursion choices to choose from. If they are older than 13, have them go online and plan out what their itinerary would look like. At the same time, they are becoming self-sufficient and educating themselves without them even knowing it!
Including everyone and keeping an open mind on other things to do other than your own creates harmony while traveling and you never know if you're going to enjoy the activity. And, if by any chance you are not enjoying the experience, I say just suck it up, try your best to enjoy something about it, and go with it. Your dissatisfaction (facial expression) can tell a lot to people and will bring other's experience down. So whether you're traveling with your spouse, children, grandparent, include them in the planning process and you'll see that everyone will be much happier!
